DESCRIPTION
for Violin and Clarinet
Duo II is an intriguing conversation between clarinet and violin that incorporates klezmer-like material for both instruments throughout. Solo cadenzas include improvisatory ornamental suggestions to emulate klezmer effects, and the final section is reminiscent of a gradually accelerating hora-like dance. The piece is of graduate level difficulty with the violinist needing to execute some quick double stops and the clarinetist needing to employ flutter-tonguing and bending of some notes. The work alternates between slow, moderate, and fast sections and has a duration of about 8 minutes.
