for Voices and Woodwinds
Decima is based on a text by the 17th century Mexican poet Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. The work is scored for 10 vocalists (ssaaatttbb) and 10 woodwinds (fl, alto fl, Eb clar, Bb clar, bass clar, sop sax, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, and bassoon). A rhumba-like flavor and associated rhythmic complexities are present throughout the piece, which has a duration of around 8-9 minutes.
